Fate
is not always kind to children. We often find
that they become victims of circumstances or
natural calamities, loose one or both parents,
or find themselves members of broken or poverty-stricken
homes - in vice-infested surroundings or in
remote areas with no educational facilities.
No matter how badly affected such children are,
society must see that they are not allowed to
live in squalor and in a state of despondency.
They must be provided every opportunity to survive
with dignity, get good education and prepare
to overcome their misfortunes so as to achieve
a better future for themselves and their families.
The purpose of Fidai Institutions is enabling
children to recover and maintain their dignity
as befitting their status as God's greatest
creation.
In the emerging world of meritocracy the best
guarantees for their success are knowledge,
competence and a deep sense of values that will
guide them for the rest of their life. Our message,
therefore, to the Fidai students is that the
trauma they had suffered should be made to become
a spur for motivation to think, to work intelligently
and courageously and to commit to improving
their future.
NEED
TO REVIEW AND RENEW
While
much has been done, much more remains to be
done. Efforts are on to bring in more educated
and experienced professionals on the staff
and arrange for their further training to
meet the specific need of the Institutions.
At the same time, voluntary assistance is
sought from professionals in specialized fields.
Though Fidai Institutions have become models
for other institution that provide shelter
and education to children, it is always necessary
to review our work and bring in improvements
in the quality of service that we provide.
Also, as societies change their needs also
change. We have, therefore, to grow and to
change with times. If our young men and women
are to play a leading role in the future in
professions, business, industry, welfare organizations
and the Government, they would need a high
degree of competence that can only come with
education, a correct set of values and humanitarian
concerns. Fidai Management is keen to plan
the future growth so as to best utilize the
available and planned resources for the creation
of Centres of Excellence to meet future needs
of high quality education.
For encouragement and direction to take on
new challenges and responsibilities we look
forward to obtaining technical inputs for
our development programmes from the Aga Khan
Development Network (AKDN) and other NGOs.
Such associations would create synergy and
capacity to look beyond the pressing concerns
of the day, identify future needs and emerging
opportunities. Fidai Institutions are looking
forward to forge new partnerships with like-minded
national and international organisations and evolve into
a world-class institution.
